Muscat | 23 April 2025: Oman Post, part of ASYAD Group, has announced its official participation in the Postal Prosperity Zone (PPZ) initiative, a strategic step toward enhancing cross-border e-commerce through integrated digital logistics.
The announcement was made during a high-level roundtable event held in Muscat on 23 April, part of the UPU-Consultative Committee’s official visit to Oman from 22–24 April 2025. The roundtable convened global postal leaders and logistics experts to explore next-generation solutions for cross-border delivery, customs, and transport integration.
H.E. Dr. Ali Al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), delivered the keynote, emphasizing digital transformation and collaborative frameworks in boosting the competitiveness of national postal systems.
The PPZ initiative is a global innovation programme designed to support UPU member countries and their Designated Postal Operators (DOs). Based on the UPU Abidjan Strategy and fully aligned with UPU and WCO standards and regulations, this global digital and operational transformation programme streamlines collaboration between government institutions. It modernizes the DO through modular and rapid integration with the global ecommerce ecosystem, upgrading its digital and operational capabilities and creating postal logistics & customs infrastructure which serves as a gateway for cross-border ecommerce.
The initiative fosters cooperation between national postal operators and private-sector logistics providers to enhance cross-border e-commerce performance. By integrating digital processes and interoperable networks, the PPZ provides a framework for seamless first-to-last mile delivery across international markets.
The announcement of Oman Post’s participation in the PPZ initiative supports the strategic goals of Oman Vision 2040 which identifies logistics as a key engine of economic diversification and regional competitiveness and strengthens its role as a cross-border logistics enabler, aligned with Asyad Group’s vision. The PPZ project will strengthen this logistics ecosystem by enabling full digital connectivity between Oman Post and international ecommerce platforms, optimized customs infrastructure, and competitive global transit capabilities. Oman Post’s participation in the PPZ initiative marks a strategic step in advancing Oman’s digital economy and trade ambitions.
The project which will be implemented in May 2025, will include real-time data sharing between postal and customs systems, standardized labeling and tracking, and optimized transport flows across air, sea, rail, and road networks.
During the three-day visit, the delegates including UPU CC members, representatives from the UPU, World Customs Organization (WCO), government institutions, and global ecommerce stakeholders, toured several of Asyad Group’s integrated logistics facilities, including ports, free zones, and multimodal transport hubs. These site visits offered firsthand insights into Oman’s growing role as a global logistics hub, supported by advanced infrastructure and smart trade facilitation systems.
